WHAT: The beginning of a new school year brings excitement and wonder for our youngest learners. There are many skills that our early childhood educators strive to develop in our youngest learners – curiosity for learning, confidence, social skills, being self-sufficient, independent, and responsible problem-solvers, and of course the basic skills of reading, writing, and mathematics. Getting a jump start on these skills for those children who may need some extra attention and support is an important task, and one that the Smooth Sailing program aspires to deliver. Children entering kindergarten, first or second grade benefit by having a smooth transition into their upcoming school year.

WHO: Based on your child's Kindergarten Registration information or by having a Teacher Referral, your student may be invited to attend Smooth Sailing. For more information please email: Kristi.Papcun@ship.k12.pa.us

WHY: This program is a significant asset to our school district by giving children targeted instruction to set the tone for strong early literacy and mathematics development in pursuit of a successful launch to their upcoming school year.

HOW: Children spend the day in small interactive groups experiencing different classroom activities that focus on specific abilities they will require for school success. These proficiencies include: foundational literacy skills (reading and writing), mathematics skills, fine motor skills, classroom routines, and general school expectations and school routines. Throughout the program, children also get to explore the appropriate use of iPads.

WHEN: Smooth Sailing will be held from Monday, July 14th through Thursday, July 17th, 2025. Children will attend 4 mornings (Monday-Thursday) from 8:15am – 11:15 am.

LUNCH is provided through the Summer Lunch Program.

WHERE: Summer 2025 Program will be located at the Shippensburg Intermediate School - 601 Hollar Avenue -

Shbg, PA 17257
