Ready, Set, Go!

Ready, Set, Go! is a program implemented through the unique professional triad of university faculty/students, school district teachers/administrators, and Foundation board members, to service the community through a free early literacy/school readiness event for SASD families with children ages Birth to Age 8.

Shippensburg University Prek-4 pre-service teachers, under the direction of Dr. Cheryl Slattery, implement various oral language/early literacy learning activities with children during this event. The learning activities showcase oral language use and early literacy learning in ways that promote acquisition and development based on the arts. The literacy activities that the undergraduate students created for the children included poetry, singing songs, games, show and tell, dramatizing books, and story-telling.

This program also provides workshop sessions for parents, and gives families many of the tools they need to help their child prepare for a successful Kindergarten year and beyond. Workshops were designed and presented by several school district teachers and administrators, under the direction of Grace Hockenberry, 5th grade teacher, and Kristi Papcun, Kindergarten teacher. The program attendance has been a huge success since the onset in 2007, servicing hundreds of children and parents.

Ready, Set, Go! will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 from 5-7pm at James Burd Elementary School. To RSVP for this event, please call Nancy Grayson at 717-530-2770 or James Burd at 717-530-2780 by April 12.
